Dear reader,
I have been struggling with ‘writer’s block’ recently and it has gotten to the point where I actually need to do something about it.
So today I’ve decided to explore the psychology behind ‘writer’s block’, the causes and the cures- if there are any.
Informed Open College says that writer's block can vary from person to person. In other words everyone experiences it differently.
What are the causes? (In no particular order):
Lack of inspiration- So you sink into pure boredom and start daydreaming about utter nothingness
‘Burn Out’ symptoms- Brain is dead. Cannot function.
Distracted- ‘nuff said
Fear - whatever I produce is not good enough. In fact it will be terrible
Stress/frustration- an ‘Ahhh!’ moment
Outside influence aka Life- just keep swimming. You'll get through it eventually
Sounds familiar? Thank you college. I’m just joking or am I?. shhh.
‘Cures’ for writer’s block( Again in no particular order):
Just don’t write- not to that extreme but at least take a break. :)
Exercise- Go for a walk and get some fresh air. ( when the weather is good. Or if it’s not good you could pop to your local supermarket for…)
Fuel- Snacks. And lots of them because working always makes you hungry.
Sleep!
Socialising- chat to a friend and bounce some ideas around
Write whenever- Sometimes ideas just appear out of nowhere ( just like this article). Store them on your phone and you can always come back to them later.
I hope you find this somewhat useful.
From.
