Since February 24th 2022, Ukraine has been entrenched in a gruesome war that's lasted just under a year. For months beforehand, the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin has lined their border with Ukraine with hundreds of thousands of troops, tanks and fighter jets, seemingly looking like they were planning for invasion. The Kremlin announced an invasion into Ukraine wasn’t happening and the troops and tanks were just drills taking part near the border of the country. However, the claims that the armies were just drills were 100% false and they launched their offensive into the country.
In the beginning, Russia was rampant and quick, overwhelming the Ukrainian forces heavily and landing heavy blows against Ukraine. But as time waned on, Russia were experiencing more of a fight then they originally thought they would, as Ukraine were fighting back, which wasn’t what Russia thought would happen, and they were fighting well, as Europe and the US were sending in NATO calibre supplies to aid the country in their war. As time went on, a stable frontline began to emerge as Russia haphazardly retreated in the north and focused their forces in the east.
So the question is, when will the war be over, when will fighting stop? Sadly, it doesn't look anytime soon, as Russia is looking for a way out but Ukraine said they won't take any land concessions. So there's a bit of a stalemate in this situation, one side wants peace but wants the land they have invaded, but the other would only accept peace if they keep their land. The threat of nuclear weapons is massive as well, as Russia says that they will not be using them in Ukraine, but the levels of trust between the west and Russia seem to be dwindling as relations have fully broken down.
Overall, the fight rages on as nearly a year after military veterans said that the war would last 2 days, it seems it will go on for more than 2 years.
