Showstopping outfits at this years MET GALA 2022

The biggest fashion event of the year, the first Monday of May. Many A-list celebrities attend this glamorous event held in The Metropolitan Museum of Art following a different set theme each year. This year: ‘Gilded Glamour and White Tie’. This can be interpreted very differently depending on who you are. The word Gilded means wealthy and privileged so many may take this as 1800’s fashion.

The most popular, best dressed stars include: Blake Lively, Kim Kardashian, Hailey Bieber, Kate Moss and many more.

KIM KARDASHIAN’S MARILYN GOWN

For this year's Met Gala, Kim Kardashian wore one of Marilyn Monroe’s most famous dresses. Monroe wore the beaded gown when she sang Happy Birthday, Mr President for President John F Kennedy in May 1962. Kim did many transformations to make sure her look was perfect. In an interview she said she lost 21lbs to fit into the dress and dyed her hair blond to complete the look.

BLAKE LIVELY’S LIBERTY LOOK

Blake Lively’s custom Versace gown filled with tributes to New York City, represents The Statue of Liberty with the two different colours and a transformation on the carpet. Her look was fitting with the theme as Lady Liberty was gifted to the U.S. by France in 1885, exactly in the Gilded Age. Blake recently revealed in an interview that the dress also featured a train with

constellations intended to look like the ceiling at Grand Central Station, a direct nod to Blake's role as Serena in Gossip Girl.

KATE AND LILA MOSS

The 90’s supermodel Kate Moss and her daughter Lila Moss wore custom Burberry on the red carpet. The pair got ready together before the big event and in an interview with Vogue Lila said “My look is modern and feels young while still being elegant and chic”.

JODIE TURNER-SMITH’S GUCCI GOWN

Sticking well to the ‘gilded glamour’ theme, Jodie Turner-Smith channelled the 1920s with a beaded fringe leotard and a full skirt by Gucci. The Gucci ambassador said that her look was supposed to reflect the "over-the-top and fantastical" energy of the Gilded Age.

The actress was accompanied by her husband, Joshua Jackson, who was also dressed in Gucci in a custom black coat with tails over a white dress shirt and pinstripe trousers.

HAILEY BIEBER’S FEATHERED GOWN

Hailey Bieber stunned in a backless silk gown, white feathered cape and black tights at this year’s Met Gala. The star was dressed in a white Yves Saint Laurent gown and finished off her look with her famous ‘glazed donut

skin’ and sleek bun.

EMILY RATAJKOWSKI’S BEADED LOOK

From the Atelier Versace spring/summer 1992 collection, the ensemble was originally worn by supermodel Yasmeen Ghauri on the runway. The look consisted of a beaded halter neck top, a voluminous silk skirt and a dramatic train. Ratajkowski accessorized the look with colourful earrings, gold strap heels and a face framing up-do to highlight her striking features. The author and model said she felt ‘very lucky to be wearing this look’.
