Are you behind in college work, making your teachers shout at you to get it done? Are you lacking in the motivation to get up and get stuff done? Then it will be beneficial to read this article to hopefully help motivate yourself to do work without burning yourself out or just not doing the work completely.
It's winter, probably the worst season for students who need to get their work done and just simply can't find any motivation or want to do work - trust me you're not alone. The thought of just sitting silently at a desk and completing all those essays you have overdue is a big no, right? You just want to lay in bed, be cosy all day and eat everything in the cupboards - we all want that. To even begin to catch up on that ever growing workload, you need to get out of this cycle and I'll try to help you to.
5 ways to get up and get on with it:
Revision/Homework and Day To Day Life Calendars - having two separate calendars for school life and your personal life really does help to find a balance and help yourself to not over/under work. This can be either digital or manual and will make you more motivated as you have planned out what you will do and when. When you have these calendars, make sure you're looking at your college timetable too and make sure you won't do too much in one day if you've already had a long day at college.
Track Your Progress - test yourself, compare how your grades look or just how you've mentally changed as a person after a few months of this new work ethic. You will definitely see a difference in you as a person because you will have a lot less to stress over when you learn to keep on top of your work - this will motivate you to keep going!
Plan for bad days - there will be days, if it's when you first start this process or when you've been doing it for months, that there will be obstacles that you can't always predict when you're prepping. There will be days where you're feeling unwell and don't want to do anything, and there will be days where there's something loud distracting you outside. It could be anything but you need to plan for these hurdles. If you're feeling unwell, then maybe do an hour less than you were going to do or take a day off (just don't make a habit of it) but it's okay to take a break. And if there's something loud outside then do what you can and whatever you couldn't do, do later on or the next day. It will never always be perfect.
Be realistic - don't try to make yourself do more than what you realistically can do because you burn yourself out. It will really make you unmotivated if you set yourself 5 straight hours of work everyday after college. If you've had a long day of 8:45 - 4:00 then you're really not going to want to go straight back to doing work for hours when your hom - this will put you straight back into that lazy cycle you were in before. Instead, give yourself an hour or so to relax after college and then get into doing some work. But make sure you…
TAKE BREAKS! - you're human, you need to take breaks in between all this work. It's not healthy to do it all at once and it's actually proven to be better for your mind to take breaks. Even if every 40 minutes of work you take a 15 minute break. In these bre4ak make sure you're having snacks, you deserve it!
I hope this article helps you find the motivation to get your work done!
