Halloween is cancelled: A Trick or a Treat?

by Emily Cuell

Seems like this year Covid-19 picked 'trick' with cases still not decreasing during the Autumn. The spooky season might have to be put on hold this year with social distancing measures still in place. This year there will be no creepily dressed children knocking at doors for free sweets and no hauntingly halloween themed parties to enjoy. Instead, we will sit at home watching horror movies and listening to Monster Mash on repeat. Although this haunting holiday is a favourite for some, others are jumping with joy at the cancellation. Since we will all be home hiding under our covers at dramatic jump scares, here are some Halloween activities to participate in still staying safe from Covid-19:

  • Movie marathon

A go to! Sit with family or friends and watch some of your favourite chilling classics.

  • Pumpkin carving

Even though there is no one to appreciate your artistic skills, grab a pumpkin and challenge yourself with a hard design. No better time to try something new than now.

  • Halloween themed calls

Since we can’t be together, why not get all the group on their laptops and not put that Halloween costume to waste! A Halloween themed call with a few fun games to play sounds like the perfect way to spend the eerie evening.

  • Bringing Halloween indoors

Instead of throwing away your decorations put them all on the inside and don’t let your spooky spirit be ruined.

  • Make your own costume

If you’re thinking about a themed call, going out till 10pm or just planning on sitting around in your Halloween costume, make your own! Now more than ever is the best time to get your DIY kit out and make your own costume.

  • Make a halloween themed mask

Since masks are becoming more mandatory than ever, what better way to show your Halloween spirit than through a Halloween themed face mask. Grab some fabric paint and make everyone jealous of your unique Halloween design.
