-Sam Ryder, UK Eurovision Entry 2022
On the road to Eurovision 2023, two last cities are planned to battle it out to host the next edition of the annual singing competition. Glasgow and Liverpool are the two last cities who have gone through a rigorous voting system where many cities have tried and failed to host Eurovision. The head of Eurovision says the decision is “ just weeks away “ as the country waits in anticipation. The two cities are rich in music history, with Liverpool being the UNESCO City of Music since 2015, and Glasgow are home to the OVO Hydro Arena, which has held many music festivals and events.
Ukraine won this year's rendition of the competition with an astounding 439 points which are mostly from the public votes. The Ukrainian song has become “an anthem in the war torn nation “ , says the winners, Kalush. The UK came second in their best finish since their last championship, winning it in 1998. The UK have been very disappointing since the turn of the millennium, only getting a top half of the board finish on 3 occasions out of a possible 21 times. The song that got UK their silver medal, Spaceman by Sam Ryder, has catapulted Sam’s career and gained 34 million streams on spotify in just a few months as he will make an appearance at next year's competition.
The Eurovision Final is the most watched music final in the world, pulling in 180 million people. Ukraine, as the winners, will instantly be placed into next year's competition, along with the big 5 (UK, France, Italy, Spain and Germany.) The Winners and second place acts of Sam Ryder and Kalush will most likely perform while the voting for the new Eurovision champions occurs. Eurovision 2023 will be the 67th annual rendition and likely to pull in over 200 million viewers to see who will be the 67th champion and hold the competition in 2024.
