Election 2019: What we say at Loop

"For many students at college this election is the first in which they can vote, this is a big responsibility for someone just turned 18 and is something that should be thoroughly thought out. For many the idea of voting is something they would rather ignore. This is because they don't feel any candidate or party represents their best interests or they don't like the political system in which our country revolves around. However what most young people don't know is they have a chance to recognize that they want a change in the system. Spoiling your ballot allows for your vote to show your dissatisfaction with the political climate of this country and how it operates. Don't just not vote, vote for a change."

"In many countries throughout history, people have been fighting for the right to vote, something which is vital to have a strong and stable democracy- a massively important factor of british identity. Use your vote to voice your opinion on what needs to change and improve in our country and will therefore affect decisions in everyday life. Yes, many people will argue that their vote isn't worth it and that it won't make a difference but if everyone had that mindset, nothing would change."

"I feel the issue with the election is that everyone can't decide on who to vote for due to all the information being pushed out making it a bit overwhelming for people. Some people feel they should stick to what they originally voted and some have changed their minds. Some people are even voting for a random party or one they don't agree with purely because they can't decide. I personally have no opinion as I don't know enough about the full situation."

"In my opinion, if I could vote, I would vote for the Liberal Democrats because I think they have the strongest manifesto which would really help people, and I think that Jo Swinson is a nice change to the typical politicians that we see in our society. However I believe that the conservatives will win, or there will be a hung parliament, which would end in a coalition between the Labour party and the Lib Dems."

"The green party is good because they are mainly environmentally friendly and have very good morals. This opposes the opinions of Jeremy corbyn and Boris Johnson as they are very strict and just want to get Brexit done as soon as possible."

"I don’t know much about it and won't learn about it until I am able to vote. However I think that they should lower the voting age as it is our futures that are being voted on. But people our age don’t take the time to learn about the government, all the parties and what they are offering, I’m a good example for this :)"

"At college, a lot of second years are turning 18 and are now able to vote. However, it is still important that first years have an opinion who to vote for as it is what decides the future for our country and how we live today. A lot of people go with the opinion that ‘their vote will not matter’ but you have to realise that everyone’s contribution to whichever party can keep the country the most stable will make a difference. The gap between being confined to school and suddenly being more free to do what you want as an adult conflicts people but your vote changes the system. I personally do not know who to vote for myself, however it is essential to take an interest in what party brings what to which country."

"Another important topic is the age of vote. In my opinion the age that you can vote should be lowered to 16 because that’s the future of our country too. 16 year olds are either in college or about to be in college which is a massive leap and there are still more mature and educated 16 year olds than a lot of 40 year olds for example. You can argue that 16 year olds aren’t ‘mature’ enough but you can also argue that a lot of older people aren’t either. A lot of people don’t have any political knowledge but the earlier people are exposed to it and allowed to make a contribution the earlier people will be more aware and understanding of politics and what your vote means."

"I would vote green because it's very good for the environment and isn't run by an idiot. In many countries throughout history, people have been fighting for the right to vote, something which is vital to have a strong and stable democracy- a massively important factor of british identity. Use your vote to voice your opinion on what needs to change and improve in our country and will therefore affect decisions in everyday life. Yes, many people will argue that their vote isn't worth it and that it won't make a difference."

"If my vote was not wasted I would vote for the Liberal Democrats or if there was more of a chance for mp’s to win a seat possibly the green party due to it’s idealistic manifesto.

I would vote for the Liberal Democrats if I was of age. I believe their plan for the future is the most achievable and idealistic. Their manifesto includes stopping Brexit which I agree strongly with as we are safer staying in the EU and with the remaining money they would invest £50 billion into public services and tackling inequality. The Lib Dems also promise to tackle the climate emergency by generating 80% of our electricity from renewables by 2030 and insulating all low-income homes by 2025. Jo Swinson’s, leader of the Liberal Democrat party, plan also mentions about building a fairer economy by providing free childcare from 9 months and giving every adult £10,000 to spend on skills and training throughout their life, recruiting 20,000 more teachers as part of an extra £10 billion a year for schools which would give children the best start in life as they are the future generations who this vote will impact the most and transforming our mental health services by treating mental health with the same urgency as physical health therefore improving the welfare of the country."

"If I was old enough to vote, I wouldn't know who to vote for. I’m not really interested in politics, but i think if the country has already voted to leave brexit why hasn't it happened? So i feel like regardless of who wins, none of the mps are actually listening to what the general public want. The majority of people aren’t voting for a party that they actually believe in, they’re just voting for what they feel is the best out of a bad bunch."
