One of my favourite games to play during lockdown has been the Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. Although not yet completing the game, I have enjoyed it so far. One thing that is worth mentioning about the game is it’s art style. From previous games, Legend of Zelda games have been low poly or pixelated, however Nintendo decided to go for something a lot different. The game presents the visuals with cell shading and lineless designs that make each of the characters look soft a visually pleasing.
One of the most impressive features of the game is also the landscape visuals, truly the highlights of the game is when the play gets to explore the open fields at sunrise or in the evening. The visual lighting is one of the most impressive, everything on screen is clean and warm, it’s a world I want to explore.
During this time I’ve also managed to play of the older Zelda games - Ocarina of Time. In comparison, the amount of progress Nintendo has made with the gameplay is somewhat inspiring. Not only the visuals changed but the gameplay has improved significantly. The open world genre has definitely made a huge improvement with breath of the wild. The problem with ocarina of time’s open world gameplay feels a lot more restricted and compact and the scenery isn’t as impressive. But, to mention that Ocarina of Time is probably still one of my favourites, considering the fact how outdated it is compared to the newer games. However, so far I have enjoyed both games equally for different reasons. These games have helped subdue my boredom during quarantine.
