The Script sure have wormed their way into the hearts of people all over the world. Formed in Dublin, Ireland in 2007, The Script celebrate their own successes and focus on inspiring those around them. The three members; Daniel O’Donoghue - lead vocalist and keyboardist, Mark Sheehan - lead guitarist - and Glen Power - drummer and bassist, first started releasing their music in 2008, a year after assembling. Despite their 3 year hiatus and break from music, the trio have continued to make music and impact the lives of everyone around them.
The reasons behind the break has since been confirmed, with lead vocalist, Daniel O’Donoghue confessing that he had to have surgery on his vocal chords twice, after the first surgery didn’t result in a full recovery as he would’ve hoped. This itself meant that the band were out of action for a year with their lead vocalist out of the picture. However, the surgeries weren’t the only reason that the break lasted 3 years. The band said, “We'd been caning it and touring for four years. We were singing, drinking, and staying up all night. We'd been on the road for some time, we were burning the candle at both ends — it was only a matter of time before we burnt our fingers. We needed time to take a break and chill — take stock of everything.”
Their first ever song was released on the 3rd May 2008, and is called We Cry. The upbeat yet emotional song highlights the problems of society and how it is unforgiving to those in need. For example, we are introduced to three scenarios in this song: 1. A young girl becomes pregnant at age 14. 2. An actor getting into drugs. 3. Effect of alcoholism on families. These problems can all be seen in everyday society, therefore the song highlights the importance of making sure that they are limited to improve people’s standard of living.
Another impactful song is the very well-known, Hall of Fame. This was released on 10th September 2012, and was one of their most successful songs by far. Hall of Fame symbolises the greatness that you can be and the amount of power that you can hold just by believing in yourself. The first line in this song sure kicks the song off with a bang. “Yeah you can be the greatest, you can be the best” suggests that you can be the best version of yourself by using your attributes to your advantage, and if you work hard, you can be whatever you want to be. This is mirrored in their equally successful song, Superheroes.
It is clear that The Script’s comeback will be greatly received among the UK and Ireland. The newest album, Sunsets and Full Moons will officially be released on the 8/11/19 and will feature 9 songs. The Script have already announced dates for their 2020 tour and are planning to return home to Dublin on the 6th and 7th March, news that will be a sense of relief to their fans back home.
