BRITS 2022 - a run down
The British Record Industry Trusts Show, the BRITS, a highly anticipated British music awards show that has all the biggest stars on the edge of their seats. This years show let no one down as an incredible line up took to the stage and a competitive list of nominees eagerly awaited their fate. There were ups and downs but none of that mattered because as a celebration of music it felt special. Definitely a night to remember.
It started strong with a variety of red carpet looks to catch our attention: Little Simz in a compelling leather trench and pop of neon green for a top; Anne Marie in a powerful leather blazer; Holly Humberstone in lace; Glass Animals nailing the grandpa sweater looks; Ed Sheeran in blue velvet; Joy Crookes in gold - cape and all; Griff channelling her inner chess with a stunning chequered dress; and Adele in a beautifully custom Armani black gown.
Then, when the show commenced, we saw the revival of ‘Best Dance Act’ won by a felicitous Becky Hill who rightly made it known how this genre deserved all the recognition and the support she felt was immense.
We saw Anne-Marie’s unfortunate stumble as she lost her footing when singing with KSI and Digital Farm Animals. But as the humble icon we all love, she later took to twitter in a good humoured manner stating that she ‘didn’t need her left ankle anyway’ and exclaiming in humour ‘I AM DEAD.’ to a swiftly made twitter account aptly named @annemariesankle.
We were treated to Little Simz’s jaw-dropping talent as she performed a medley of ‘Introvert’ and ‘Woman’ featuring a captivating monologue from The Crown star Emma Corrin. Little Simz led another iconic moment of the night when she won Best New Artist. She brought her proud and emotional mum on stage to accept the award with her commenting, ‘Look what you’ve done mum.’
Ed Sheeran won Songwriter of the year as his incredible lyrics always seem to top the charts whether he is singing them or not - he also took to the stage opening the show with an interesting version of Bad Habits featuring Bring Me The Horizon and then later an lovely acoustic version of ‘The Joker And The Queen’.
We also saw performances from Sam Fender, Holly Humberstone and the incredible Dave closing the show - he performed an incredible rendition of ‘In The Fire’ with guest appearances from Giggs, Ghetts, Meekz and Fredo, and a beautiful gospel choir before finishing with an amazing flamethrower guitar solo centre stage.
However the talk of the night, her name on everyone's lips - she was the woman to be admired - and as Jodie Whittaker exclaimed when asked whether she would be starstruck: “are you kidding me? It's Adele!”. Expected and well deserved, Adele swept the night away winning the three top awards (Song of the year - Easy On Me; Artist of the year - herself; and Album of theYear - 30), her acceptance speeches candid and kind as she dedicated them to her son and exclaimed her love for being a female in the industry. She went on to perform a beautiful rendition of her song ‘I Drink Wine’ as she sat atop a grand piano in a bedazzling golden gown.
And there you have it, a brief run-down of the BRITS 2022. A goosebump inducing night of music, and a fun celebration hinting at normality after last year's socially distanced show - it is an evening to remember.
