The most recent signing for Saints, and their biggest hope.Oršić is a Croatian midfielder and winger. He played in the Qatar World Cup this year, scoring a goal against Morocco which brought Croatia to the semi finals. What will he bring for Saints, and will he manage to get them out of the relegation zone?
The midfielder has scored 2 goals internationally. The first against Spain in the Euro 2020, and the second in the World Cup against Morocco. He has got experience playing against the biggest clubs and the world's best players. Croatia encountered teams such as Brazil, Argentina and Belgium. While playing against these teams, you have to have determination and persistence.
In his club career, he has played in Croatia, Italy, Slovenia, China and South Korea. His first proper club was Inter Zapresic, where he joined in 2008, and started playing for their first team in 2009. In the 2012-2013 season, he was the teams top goalscorer with 12 goals. After spending 6 years playing in Croatia, he transferred on a loan to Jeonnam Dragons in February 2015 to January 2016. He scored 9 goals in 33 games for the club. Jeonnam signed him for €750,000 in the January transfer window in 2016. The same year 6 months later, he joined Changchun Yatai FC in the Chinese football league for €1.3 million. He returned to the South Korean football league in January 2017, signing for Ulsan Hyundai at €935,000. During his time there he won the Korean FA cup title. After this success, he joined Croatian club Dinamo Zabgreb in the summer 2018 transfer window.
Back in Croatia, on September 18th 2019, he scored a hat-trick against Atlanta in the 2019-2020 UEFA Champions League debut. Then on March 18th 2021 he scored another hat-trick against Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League round 16, helping his team win 3-2, and reaching the quarter finals for the first time in history. These hat-tricks made him the top goal scorer in European competitions for his club, with an amazing 17 goals. On December 9th 2021, he scored against West Ham United in the Europa League group stages, getting Dinamo into the knockout stages. On September 6th 2022, Oršić scored the first goal of the 2022-2023 Champions League group stages against Chelsea, when they won 1-0.
On January 6th 2023, he joined Southampton FC on a two and a half contract for £8 million. On January 11th 2023, he made his debut in the game, Saints vs Manchester City (EFL Cup /Carabao Cup) in the 83rd minute, where Saints won 2-0. As someone with much experience playing for many different clubs around Europe and Asia, he is seen as a crucial player for the team. This gives Southampton fans a lot of hope that they will stay up in the Premier League.
