NBA Regular Season Awards Recap

With the NBA season ending and going into the offseason a handful of news and events occur, the most notable being the official award announcements. In this article we are going to recap what occurred.

MVP: Joel Embiid (Philadelphia 76ers)

  • 33.1 Ppg (points per game)

  • 10.2 Rpg (Rebounds per game )

  • 4.2 Apg (Assists per game)

  • 1.7 Blk (Blocks per game)

This year's 2022/23 regular season MVP was given to 76ers big man Embiid for a stellar offensive season making him the first Cameroonian to win the prestigious award. This didn’t come without its fair share of controversy as the runners up for the award had historical seasons too. For the majority of the season Nikola Jokic was deemed the favourite to win this award however, through voter fatigue and many other reasons Embiid managed to take the number one spot from him.

As it stands social media’s true MVP isn’t Embiid rather Nikola Jokic as he won the NBA championship with Denver for the first time in the franchises history

Coach Of The Year: Mike Brown (Sacramento Kings)

The Sacramento Kings finally ended their playoff drought of 16 years which was the longest ever in NBA history and they achieved it in style, finishing 3rd in a stacked Western Conference doing better than teams like the Clippers and the Warriors. The Kings quickly became fan favourites with their exciting young roster and their tradition of lighting the mighty purple beam after every game like the bat signal.

Rookie Of The Year: Paolo Banchero (Orlando Magic)

  • 20 Ppg (Points per game)

  • 6.9 Rbg (Rebounds per game)

  • 3.7 Apg (Assists per game)

Orlando Magic’s shiny new rookie came into the league with a mission to prove himself and he did so very well. Now that the Magic have another big to replace Aaron Gordon’s role in the team in Paolo the team is looking very promising and Banchero looks like a future franchise player for the Magic.
