Review: The Prestige (Film - No Spoilers)

by Emily Cuell

Wow. What a cinematic, mind puzzling, ‘wait a second I didn’t see that, rewind it’ MASTERPIECE!!! The Christopher Nolan film follows the battling relationship between competing magicians: Alfred and Robert. The story takes you on a journey and shows everyone the intricacy and personal effects of putting your life into a career of magic and miss direction. Now, I am not giving away spoilers because more than anything I want people to watch this film without any idea of how to fill in the blanks. So, without giving too much away, this is my review of Nolan’s: The Prestige.

Nolan never misses when it comes to having your jaw hit the floor at complicated, thinky plot lines. Like come on he directed Inception. Inception was the all time think piece of the century. Anyway, back to magic. This film had me encapsulated right from the very start, the competition between Alfred and Robert left you always wanting to know more and the random comments and character appearances makes the ending all make sense. Throughout the film we notice small hints of the ending but don’t realize it till the end. The way Nolan has truly shown us magic through film and made us truly believe is the mind puzzling act has made the film now top of my list. Nolan doesn’t make a film like anyone else and sends us on a psychological journey of discovery.

Despite the fact I have not been able to give too much away, I would highly recommend The Prestige more than any other film. It’s twists, miss direction, complication and of course magic is just the beginning of why you must watch this film.
