Movies to watch before you die

by the Loop Team

'Mrs Doubtfire' - Daniel (Robin Williams), a divorced actor, disguises himself as Mrs Doubtfire, an ageing female Scottish housekeeper, in order to work in his ex-wife's house and spend more time with his children. [Toby Barrett]

Cameron Diaz has done countless amazing films, ranging from ‘what to expect when you’re expecting’ to ‘The Other Woman’ and even ‘What happens in Vegas’. She’s done many feel-good films, romance and comedy showcasing her range in different skills and helping to convey her emotions to her audience.

If you want a film that is thought-provoking and shows a different perspective on life then ‘The Father’ is definitely a must-watch. Starring Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Coleman, it follows the confusing reality of ageing as a man’s mind manipulates the fabric of his own reality.

A film that I just think is absolutely brilliant, and therefore has to be watched is ‘Adult Life Skills’ starring Jodie Whittaker. A 2016 dramedy following 29 year old ‘Anna’ who lives at the bottom of her mum’s garden after losing her late twin brother, it explores an armful of emotions and the journey of grief as the soon-to-be 30 year old tries to stay afloat.

'Brothers of Grimsby' as its funny and comedy action packed with many different styles.

Sometimes you just need a feel-good film to lift your spirits and 'Paddington 2' is the epitome of feel-good. This 2017 live-action/ CGI hybrid was labelled as the best reviewed movie of all time on Rotten Tomatoes for 3 years and is entirely worthy of this accolade. We once again follow the beloved Paddington Bear as he causes chaos, chases down a present for his Aunt and makes countless marmalade sandwiches. It’s heartwarming, surprisingly emotional and has an ending that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face and possibly a tear or two in your eye.

'The Butterfly Effect' (2004), starring Ashton Kutcher, depicts a teenage boy, named ‘Evan’, possessing the ability to travel back in time and alter the past - which results in a dark turn of events, as it showcases the catastrophic ramifications on Evan’s present timeline. This film is both thrilling and thought-provoking, it cleverly explores the consequences of our choices, and their unforeseen impacts on our futures. You will be left staring at your ceiling for hours.

'The Breakfast Club'(1985) is a fun movie exploring what happens when 5 different high school students with completely different personalities are left in detention. The Breakfast Club teaches you not to judge others and to never be ashamed of who you are through exploring stereotypes. It also has a good soundtrack: Don’t you (forget about me) is one of the best songs to listen to.
